Northern Middle School Holds Annual Spelling Bee

On Friday, December 17, Northern Middle School held its annual spelling bee after taking last year off due to the COVID pandemic. Over 130 middle school students took part in the written pre-test held in November, with eighteen students advancing to the oral spelling bee. Family and close friends of the finalists were invited to attend in the middle school auditorium, while staff and students streamed the bee in their classrooms. Mr. Steven Kirkpatrick, Superintendent of Schools, presided as the bee pronouncer. After over 20 rounds, Abigail Kim (7th grade) was crowned the winner. Runner-ups were Ty Witmer (8th grade) and Caleb Greenawalt (6th grade). All three finalists will advance to the WITF Central PA Spelling Bee held later this month. Congratulations to Abigail, Ty, and Caleb!
