Time-Sensitive Info about Act 66: Student Grade Retainment Due 7/15/2021
Dear Northern Families,
We are sending out a link to important information about Act 66 of 2021 which as signed into law just days ago. The Act allows parents to choose to retain their child next year (2021-2022) in the current 2020-2021 grade level.
Many schools across Pennsylvania were not in session for face-to-face instruction for most of last year. In October 2020, only 62 schools in PA were providing 5-days per week of face-to-face instruction. Our four elementary schools were face-to-face throughout the school year. As of mid-March, grades 7-12 were attending face-to-face four days a week. As late as last February, more than 50% of Pennsylvania students had not been given the option to even step into a classroom. Even with the opportunities we were able to provide to students last year, we know there may be some families who believe that repeating a grade may be in their child's best interest.
Act 66 of 2021 requires that parents choosing to retain their child complete the linked formby July 15, 2021. This form must be sent to your child's school principal. Once that is done, a meeting will be scheduled to discuss what retention will look like for your child.
Please reach out to your child's building principal should you have any questions or concerns. Additional information is provided at the links below.
