Rock Your School at Northern Elementary

This year, Northern Elementary School's Year of Courage focuses on building student resilience and perseverance, encouraging students to take risks as a way to grow. This premise served as the inspiration for Northern Elementary's recent Rock Your School event which involved transforming the Northern Elementary School building to look like board games that had magically came to life!

From October to December, the Rock Your School coordinators, Amy Wildasin, Felicia Rodriguez, and Samantha Moose offered staff support in tailoring lessons using the theme of Board Games to fuel engagement. Teachers encouraged student engagement through competition, critical thinking, and creative design. The Sunshine Cafe featured the Wheel of Fortune Spinner and opportunities for staff and students to nominate persons modeling the rule of the Game - Courage Edition.

Rock Your School culminated on January 4, 2019, with a building-wide assembly focused on spirit, student leaders, and the school-wide sentiment: WE LOVE OUR CUBS! Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5 participated in a Hungry Hungry Hippo game, featuring staff and students and leveraged one expectation: FUN! Golden Wonka tickets were given throughout the week, and random drawings were made for an Ice Cream Party or Pizza Party with Principal, Ms. Cal. Finally, the Most Valuable Players (MVP's) in the Game of Life, Courage Edition, were voted upon by their peers for demonstrating the trait of courage. This honor allowed them to select a board game to take home for family fun. Thanks to everyone who shared their time and talents on this creative project!
