Update on the SCPA Harvest Hub

From Diane Staz, Food Hub Coordinator:

As you can imagine, winter is a slow time for local food deliveries. Nevertheless, for the past three years the South Central PA Harvest Hub has continued with delivery of apples, cider and greenhouse-raised cucumbers and, through November, tomatoes from the five-acre greenhouse of nearby Toigo Organic Farms. This year, however, the Harvest Hub is taking some time over the winter to work on development, specifically fundraising and administrative help, to reach the next level. After some work over the winter by a forming steering committee, we plan to reopen in the late spring or early summer.

This year the Harvest Hub has been delivering to nine area school districts and three WellSpan Hospital locations. Produce sold by the hub includes: 20+ varieties of apples, fresh pressed apple cider, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupe, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers (field), mini cucumbers, eggplant, kale, onions (red, white and yellow), green and red peppers, baby peppers, acorn squash, butternut squash, yellow squash, beefsteak tomatoes, grape tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes and zucchini. We look forward to operations picking up again in the Spring!
