Architect Selection and Middle School Roof Installation
Dear Northern,
I am excited to share two decisions from this week’s board meeting that will have a significant impact across the District and especially on Northern Middle School.
First, the Board approved the Schrader Group as the firm to provide professional design services for construction projects including, but not limited to, Northern Middle School and additions and/or renovations to one or more of our elementary schools to meet program and capacity needs. For the middle school, the Board will be considering either renovations and additions to the existing building or new construction at the Sports and Learning Center (SLC) site. This construction work will be part of a longer term capital improvements plan to ensure all of our school buildings and the SLC are updated and compliant with code.
Second, the Board approved a project proposal for a new roof installation this summer over the classrooms portion of the middle school. This installation supplements the new roof being installed over the auditorium and gymnasium this November. As a result of these two installation projects, we expect the entire middle school to be under a new roof prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year. In the meantime, in order to navigate the remainder of this school year we will continue to implement our post-precipitation event plan and work with a roofing contractor to provide timely repairs to roof leaks.
We appreciate your patience through this process thus far and look forward to continued partnership as we navigate these construction projects and capital improvements in the months and years ahead.
