Elementary Band & Orchestra Recruitment
The Northern York County School District is pleased to be able to offer beginning Band and Orchestra instruction to students in 4th and 5th grade. Lessons occur during the school day and instruction is free of charge.
Our Instrument Info & Rental Night for parents AND students will be held on Monday, September 16, at 6:00 p.m. in the Northern High School Auditorium. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please click here to view the presentation.
This page is a landing spot for students to explore informational videos about the different instruments, as well as for families to learn about obtaining an instrument and signing their child up for Band or Orchestra.

Most instruments are permitted on the bus. Instruments that are NOT permitted on school buses are the cello, tuba, baritone, and the French horn. If school inventory is adequate, students who choose these instruments may get assigned one for at-school use and one for at-home. If adequate inventory is not available, families are responsible for transporting these instruments to school on the proper cycle day.
Please use this link (click here!) to sign up for Band or Orchestra. Please sign your student up by September 27, 2024 for a timely start to lessons. If you need a paper copy of the form, please email us, and we will get that to you as quickly as possible. If you miss the deadline, please immediately email us.

The following videos introduce all of the instruments available for students in fourth and fifth grade to play. Students will only be able to test out a limited number of instruments at our Information & Rental Night on the 16th, so it is a good idea to preview the instruments here first!

How to Enroll in Band or Orchestra
Please remember to sign up AND obtain an instrument (rent, borrow, own). These two separate actions must be taken to participate in the instrumental program.

- If you are renting an instrument from the Horn Hospital, please do so by September 25, 2024 to allow for a timely start to lessons.

- If you need to borrow an instrument from the school, please email Mrs. Zampelli at jzampelli@northernyork.org or Mrs. Szabo at jszabo@northernyork.org as soon as possible, as school instruments are in limited supply and are first come, first served!
