Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

Dear parents and guardians of students under the age of 13,

The Northern York County School District seeks a strong partnership with families to balance successful learning experiences with protecting your child’s privacy and personal information. To provide students with quality learning resources, our schools use websites operated by third parties. In order for our students to use these websites, certain personally identifying information (usually the student’s name and school-issued email address) must be provided.

Under a federal law titled Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), websites must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. The law permits school districts to consent to the collection of personal information on behalf of all of its students, thereby eliminating the need for individual parental consent given directly to each website. The district maintains a list of the educational websites used in NYCSD classrooms. Each resource on this page contains a link to a privacy policy, which describes how that website collects and uses student data.

Curriculum and technology change, so the list is updated regularly. Please check back periodically for the most updated information.

Parents and guardians have a right to opt-out of specific website resources.  If you do not want your child to access a website resource or have other questions about COPPA or Northern York County School District’s use of educational software, please contact your child’s principal.
