    Dillsburg Arts Council Announces Contest

Are you suffering from the quarantine blues? The Dillsburg Arts Council has come up with a few ideas, including a contest, that can help pass the time while confined at home.

“With the onset of COVID-19 and the social distancing guidelines currently in place, we’ve had to postpone many of our public events,” said Jay Young, Dillsburg Arts Council President. “We wanted to keep our community connected through the arts and also support local businesses. This contest is a good way to do that.” The contest features prizes including gift cards from local businesses as a way to support them during the slow economy.

The “Recreate” contest challenges participants to reimagine a famous work of art featuring objects, people or pets. All that is needed is a camera or cell phone to take a picture of the recreated masterpiece. Photos can then be sent via email to the arts council. Sample ideas along with guidelines on how to participate are listed on the arts council’s website. The contest is open to all ages and there is no cost to participate. Participants may enter more than one photo and submissions will be featured on the Dillsburg Arts Council’s website. Submissions accepted through Memorial Day, May 25, 2020.

The Council is also announcing a web-based project geared to writers of any genre who want inspiration and skill-building opportunities. Weekly posts will feature creative writing prompts and listings of books and other resources for writers looking for ways to develop their writing craft. The posts are found on the Literary Arts page of the council’s website.

“We’d like to build a community of writers through this new project,” said Young. “The arts council is considering several book publishing projects and it is our hope to tap into Dillsburg’s writing talent in those future efforts.”
