Mr. Michael Walker, Assistant Superintendent

Michael Walker serves as Assistant Superintendent of the Northern York Area School District for the 2025–2026 school year, bringing nearly two decades of leadership experience at Northern. Before stepping into this district-level role, he spent 11 years as Assistant Principal at Northern High School following four years as Assistant Principal at Northern Middle School. Prior to his administrative roles, Michael taught 8th grade mathematics at the middle school for three years, after beginning his career as a 7th grade mathematics teacher at East Pennsboro Area School District.
A graduate of East Pennsboro High School, Michael went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary mathematics from Elizabethtown University, where he also played soccer. After graduation, he returned to East Pennsboro to teach and coach, leading both the girls’ and boys’ high school soccer programs. Upon his employment at Northern, he pursued his graduate studies at Penn State University, completing a master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum in 2011 along with his principal certification. He later expanded his leadership preparation by earning his Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Shippensburg University in 2019.
Michael’s leadership is grounded in curriculum development, assessment, data analysis, staff supervision, and the design of professional learning that is responsive to educators’ needs and aligned to the district’s strategic plan. He also brings extensive experience with Northern’s online program, having served as the high school’s online coordinator for several years. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in administration, he has remained dedicated to equipping students and staff with the tools and support they need to succeed.
A Northern resident for the past 21 years and an educator in the district for 18, Michael understands the power of community and family in shaping students’ futures and preparing them for life beyond school. He enjoys working closely with teachers and principals to set clear goals and achieve meaningful results. Outside of work, he enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wife, Kacy, and their son, Keagan. With deep roots in the community and a steadfast commitment to student success, Michael Walker is dedicated to ensuring that Northern continues to thrive as a place where students, staff, and families grow together.
