Dr. Matthew Meakin, Superintendent

After serving Northern York County School District as Assistant Superintendent from November 2021, Dr. Meakin became Superintendent in time for the 2025-2026 schoolyear. Dr. Meakin will work closely with the school board, administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, community, and students to operationalize the district’s Strategic Plan in a way that helps all members of the school district Become. Belong. Be Northern.
At NYSCD, Dr. Meakin has led systematic improvements in the areas of curriculum design, assessment methodology, instructional practice, and leadership development. He is highly visible in all district buildings and takes a special interest in helping develop building level leadership, the instructional coaches’ group, and teacher leaders. He often states that “the answers are in this district” and has committed to creating opportunities for others to shine. He addition, he has been instrumental in improving communication between departments such as the schools, student services, and technology. These improvements have saved the district money through efficiencies, improved working conditions, and enhanced the educational experiences of our students.
Prior to his time at NYCSD, Dr. Meakin served as athletic director, assistant principal, and principal in the Littlestown Area School District. He built a reputation as an efficient systems leader with a laser-like focus on teacher leadership development and the improvement of student outcomes. For his work, Dr. Meakin was recognized as a Distinguished Principal by the National Institute of School Leadership.
Dr. Meakin enjoys spending time with his family: Melanie, his wife, and Jacob and Christopher, his sons. They walk daily together. He enjoys soccer and is a lifelong supporter of Nottingham Forest FC as well as a PIAA official. Having retired from playing, he stays active in the Harrisburg Cricket Club. His other hobbies include reading leadership books and studying post-war British politics and politicians.
