Northern's Boys' Basketball Fundraiser to benefit Mirdanda's Smile and the Miranda Ziegler Memorial Foundation

|
The Northern boys' basketball program culminated a week-long fund-raiser with its "Shooting for Smiles" Shoot-a-thon on Friday, January 22. The final results far exceeded all expectations as the teams raised over $5,000 for Miranda's Smile and the Miranda K. Ziegler Foundation. Boys in grades 7 through 12 participated by soliciting sponsors for every free throw shot during the week. Freshman Jason Barbaretta won the free throw competition in a tie-breaker against sophomore Jeff Berwager. Both players made 92% of their free throws in the competition. Brothers Scott and Kevin Reeder teamed to raise over $1,400 for the cause to lead all players. All awards were presented by Tammi and Jeff Ziegler, founders of Miranda's Smile, and Douglas Fickel, a Foundation teen. The Miranda K. Ziegler Foundation was created in memory of a former Northern student. Its mission is to bring smiles to teens with cancer at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and to support charities that help children and teens with cancer.
